ABOUT dyeing...
Colour Standards
Colours are closer to the chart when dyed on a white base and in the individual dye service. In the standard dye service you can expect more colour variation.
Final colour is a product of the article's colour, its fabric and the type of processing you choose. All dyes are colourfast.
Colour Stripping
Removing the Colour is only possible for cotton, linen, hemp and viscose. (Do not strip wool and silk). It leaves a soft pale shade, not white. To extend the life of some articles, especially delicate items, consider overdyeing the original colour.
Expect the occasional surprise
The unexpected happens due to...
-
Incorrect labelling eg. acrylic labelled as wool.
-
Stains from aluminium-based deodorants, perspiration, body oils and similar chemicals attract excess surface dye.
-
Areas (visible or invisible) which have been marked during manufacture or prior use.
-
Some acetates crease permanently during processing but acetate blends generally dye successfully.
-
Stitching often dyes lighter than the fabric colour.
-
Commonly used fabric resin treatments can cause colours to dye lighter than expected. A second process (free of charge) may rectify this.
Homewares
LOUNGE COVERS are one of the most successfully dyed articles as they are washable and shrinkage is rare.
CURTAINS always shrink. When the fibre type is unknown, the resulting colour may be unexpected.
BED/BATH LINEN with prior use, may dye unevenly.
shrinkage
MOST SHRINKAGE OCCURS due to loss of moisture. Tumble drying, yarn structure and other factors make shrinkage difficult to predict.
TO REGAIN SIZE stretch the item when wet and ‘line’ or ‘flat’ dry away from sunlight. In most cases, your professional Dry Cleaner is able to retension, steam and stretch your article.
Do's and don'ts
SILK'S SOFT SHEEN is lost during dyeing leaving a suede or ‘washed’ look. Silk always shrinks and often dyes lighter than expected. Do not dye duchess satin silk.
A professional Dry Cleaner who offers “silk finish” can often restore sheen and colour intensity.
MATCHING BLACKS should not be attempted as blacks rarely match.
REMOVE LEATHER from your article as it shrinks during the dyeing process.
BUTTONS AND ZIPS...
-
Will dye in multifibre dye processes.
-
Shell, pearl, metal and fabric buttons will deteriorate during dyeing and should be removed.
-
May break during processing.
-
Should be secured well.
Cullachange does not replace missing or damaged buttons and zips.
RAW OR CUT fabric edges should be overlocked.
ACRYLIC fabrics will not dye in our processes.
